Biography

Rita Clifton CBE: A Career Built Around Brand

Rita Clifton started her career in advertising after graduating from Cambridge University. She went on to become Vice Chairman and Strategy Director at Saatchi & Saatchi, working with some of the world’s best-known businesses.

In 1997, she joined Interbrand as London CEO and later became Chairman. She spent 15 years with the leading global brand consultancy, advising businesses on brand strategy and helping organisations understand how brand can influence reputation, customer relationships and long-term value.

In 2013, Rita co-founded the brand and business consultancy BrandCap. The consultancy expanded across London, New York and Hong Kong before she later sold her interest to the management team.

Her career has involved established global brands as well as start-ups and growth-stage businesses. That breadth of experience makes Rita a practitioner on all aspects of branding and marketing, rather than someone approaching the subject purely from theory.

What Makes a Strong Brand?

For Rita Clifton, a brand is much more than a logo, advertising campaign or marketing department. It reflects what an organisation stands for, how it behaves and what customers, employees and other stakeholders experience.

That approach allows her to make brand strategy relevant to senior leaders as well as marketing teams.

Her keynote presentations explore how businesses can build a world-class brand, maintain trust and ensure that what they say externally is supported by what happens inside the organisation.

She also examines branding in the digital age, where customers have more influence over reputation and where businesses can quickly be held accountable when their actions fall short of their promises.

For organisations reviewing their brand strategy or responding to changing expectations, Rita offers a practical view of what builds relevance and long-term value.
