Born in Dún Laoghaire in Dublin City in 1951, Bob first broke through as lead singer of The Boomtown Rats, part of the late 70s punk and new wave scene. Shocked by BBC coverage of the crisis in Ethiopia, Bob moved fast to co-write Do They Know It’s Christmas with Midge Ure, mobilising artists under the Band Aid name to raise money for famine relief across Africa.
